Awkward Season 3 Premiere Review

Awkward Season 3 Premiere Review

What has happened to Jenna Hamilton? Her reckless affair and apathetic attitude towards every aspect of her life has ruined the season 3 premiere of Awkward. All aspects of authenticity have been thrown out the window, as well as attention to timing and comedy. Every character we’ve come to know and love has done a 180. Outfits, hair and personalities; none of them fit together or make any sense anymore.
Every character seems disconnected from one another. Matty never once hugged or kissed Jenna compared to last season where they couldn’t keep their hands off each other. For Jenna’s 17th birthday Matty bought her a picture of herself, which is basically bought her a mirror; she already sees herself everyday.
Also, Ming all of a sudden has a role in the show. She’s broken out of her quiet shell and into a blonde style that looks horrendous. The time taken to introduce her and her overly dramatic hubby Freddie could have been spent learning more about Jenna’s affair. Val and Jenna’s mom friendship received too much air time. Instead, Jenna’s mom could have just texted Val about Jenna’s surprise party.
The show is very unrealistic, in one scene, Jenna and Sadie’s teacher drops several curse words. Would any school system allow a teacher to be so profane? Val and Jenna’s mom friendship received too much air time.
Collin and Jenna constantly making out was extremely unnecessary. How did no one in the entire school notice her and Collin kissing behind a pillar constantly? The fact that she was not outed sooner surprises me and is again, very unrealistic.
For Jenna’s birthday, she ended up not wanting a party, which her mother worked so hard for. Yes, Jenna had to contemplate her affair and relationship with Matty, but there was no need to shut everyone off. Her depressed attitude towards life in general has repeated itself so many times. How is happiness so impossible to achieve?
