Trump holds coronavirus task force press briefing on March 22.

President Trump announced that funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) will be suspended while it is under review. Trump claims the organization severely mismanaged and covered up the Covid-19 pandemic.

Trump is trying to take attention away from how he reacted to the pandemic in the United States. Even if the WHO did mismanage the outbreak, taking funding away from them will only increase the number of cases. Trump’s poor judgement has led to thousands of deaths and has put every American at risk.

The Trump administration has failed. As of May 4, the United States has had over 65,000 deaths due to Covid-19 while South Korea has only had 252 deaths. Japan has had 510 deaths and Canada has had 3,682. Compared to other countries, the United States is simply a shining example of what not to do.

The Trump administration had repeated early warnings given to them about a possible pandemic. The threat of a global pandemic has been well known for a long time in scientific and military communities, according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information.

Trump is not taking this issue as seriously as he should be. He refuses to wear a mask stating he would only wear one if he “thought it was important.” This disregard to the CDC’s guidelines on preventing the virus from spreading is fueling many Americans to do the same as Trump.

In Michigan, thousands are protesting the Governor’s stay-at-home order. A majority of the protesters are not wearing masks and are endangering themselves and their family by going out and protesting, some even wielding guns

Wearing masks and taking other necessary precautions will help flatten the curve and end the pandemic quicker. Trump needs to understand that and he needs to be taking this seriously.
