AHS Teacher’s Connection to the White House

English teacher, Mrs. Phillips-Reavis, married to White House communications officer

Although the President, Barack Obama, was unable to visit AHS on Friday, Sept. 30 due to the death of Shimon Peres, former Israeli President, one of Annandale’s beloved teachers still has a connection to the White House.

Sergeant First Class Jeremy Reavis is our very own Mrs. Phillips’ husband. He is active-duty military in the Army. He was assigned orders with The White House Communications Agency (WHCA) in 2011. SFC Reavis’ job entails providing communication support for both the President and Vice President of the United States.

Throughout the prior week at Annandale, SFC Reavis was helping oversee setup of AHS so that things would go smoothly upon the anticipated arrival of the President.

When asking Mrs. Phillips about his work with the White House, she explained that even though he works for the White House, he works mostly from Bolling Air Force Base where the WHCA headquarters is. However, occasionally, he does do work in the White House and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.

Mrs. Phillips enjoys the perks of being able to park at the Ellipse and getting personalized tours of the West Wing and other areas that are generally not easily accessible to the general public.

Although SFC Reavis works for the White House, him and his wife have never actually had the honor of meeting Obama. However, this will change soon. Since SFC Reavis will be retiring from the Army, the Phillips will get to take a picture with the President. Mrs. Phillips is especially looking forward to this so that she may thank her favorite President, Barack Obama, for all that he has done.

Despite not meeting him SFC Reavis has, traveled to locations such as India, Uruguay, and Malaysia prior to the President’s or Vice President’s arrival to set up secure communication for their events.

SFC Reavis may be retiring from the Army but that will not be the end of his working life, he plans to continue his work in the Eisenhower building with WHCA as a contractor.
