Drake keeps crushing competition

The BET Hip-Hop Awards are almost here, and the nominations reflect this year well. Drake leads the other artists with 12 nominations, a great feat that not many others can achieve. Big Sean follows closely with 10 nominations, and Nicki Minaj has 9.

Drake has had a phenomenal year, with the release of his mixtape/album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. In addition, he’s been featuring in many tracks (like “Only” and “Truffle Butter”) and releasing several of his own singles using a radio station run by his record label OVO (like “Right Hand” and “Hotline Bling”).

One of Drake’s biggest publicized actions this year was the release of his two diss tracks directed at rapper Meek Mill, “Charged Up” and “Back to Back.”

The songs were in response to Meek Mill’s tweets about how Drake should have publicized Meek’s album, which he featured on, to a larger extent. Meek also claimed that Drake didn’t write his own raps.

On September 20, he dropped a mixtape with fellow rapper Future named What A Time To Be Alive. Drake has been collaborating with the Georgian rapper for a while now, most notably in “Where Ya At” by Future, a song on Future’s album that released this year, and “Love Me” by Lil Wayne.

Even after all of his work he’s done this year, Drake is not done. He plans to release his album Views From The 6. The release date for the album has not yet been released officially, but it is rumored to drop by the end of September. However, seeing as how Frank Ocean was supposed to release his album at the end of July and it still hasn’t released, nothing is certain.

Drake’s 12 nominations do not mean that he’s winning all 12. He faces very tough opposition from some of the other hottest rappers right now, such as Kendrick Lamar, who dropped an album that shook the rap world, To Pimp A Butterfly.

The BET Hip-Hop Awards will be taped on October 9, and will air October 13 on BET.
