Update: Unexpected fire alarm prompts questions

Today at around 11:50 a.m., students and teachers were met with an unexpected fire alarm and forced to file out of the building for immediate evacuation. The reason for the alarm is unknown and currently under investigation. However, the cause of the commotion was in the downstairs boys bathroom nearby the science copy room, where caution tape was set up to block the bathroom’s entrance and a fan was placed nearby.

Administration declined to comment at the time and is still looking into the occurrence.

Lunch was reverted, and C lunch was extended by 15 minutes until 12:25 p.m., causing D lunch to begin at 12:30 p.m. W6 was extended and W8 is to begin at 1 p.m.

Check back for more information concerning the unexpected evacuation.

Update:

It was reported that a student started a fire in the boys restroom near the back entrance of the Student Services office. Due to the hazards prompted by the incident, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Service was contacted.

Approximately 3,000 students and staff members were at risk due to the fire, which prompted the immediate evacuation on Mar. 1.

Principal Vincent Randazzo spoke about the incident during the Mar. 2 announcements at the start of R3. Randazzo addressed possible consequences of the fire, which he noted as serious because of its classification as a criminal offense.

If any student has knowledge or information concerning the event and is able to identify the individual who committed the act, he or she should immediately contact Safety and Security Specialist Chris Tippins.
