Are parking permits worth the 200 dollars?

Beginning tomorrow, Sept. 14, only students with parking permits will be allowed to park on school grounds during the hours of the school day. Many of these seniors have been vying for a particularly close spot to the school.

According to Assistant Principal Jamie Carayiannis, once the two necessary forms have been turned in students are allocated spots based on attendance and discipline history.

“If a student has an activity that causes them to be at school later in the evening I try to give them a spot closer to school,” Carayiannis said.

Many students were hoping for spot 63: the spot right outside of the gate as you walk off the track. Senior Mindy Vo was lucky and qualified enough to receive it.

“I’m shocked; I didn’t expect to get that space at all, even though it’s not too far from the spot I had last year,” Vo said. “I’m glad I got assigned it.”

Spot number one, on the other hand, is at the intersection of 4 Year Run and Heritage Drive. It not only requires the driver to be able to parallel park, but also walk across the senior parking lot to reach the school. That spot was assigned to senior Brian Jefferson.

Students must remember that with a parking space, there also comes responsibility. Students are not allowed to lend the permit to a friend. If he or she gets caught, the permit will be revoked without a refund.

As long as these rules are followed, the permits are guaranteed to be very useful to the students granted them.
