Basketball Season ends with defeat to West Potomac

The boys basketball team ended their bounce-back year with a disappointing loss to the West Potomac Wolverines with a final score of 76-66.  The game went into overtime tied 62-62, but the Atoms could not finish off the Wolverines.  The boys finish a highly successful season in which they improved from last year’s record of 4-17 to taking 3rd place in the Patriot Conference with a 14-8 record.

The Atoms were led this year by junior point guard Austin Hall. who averaged 18.3 points per game and buried 67 three-pointers this year.    Senior Michael Tran and junior Ron Alston were right behind him with 11.5 points and 10.4 points per game respectively.  Hall earned first team Patriot District honors and Alston earned second team honors.

“They improved in the idea of being just individuals to becoming a team, they improved their defensive intensity, skill, and they improved their record,” coach Matthew Behne said.

Annandale had a very successful season as they achieved their goals.  “We wanted to improve our record,” Behne said.

Many students around Annandale were proud of the team’s performance this year in contrast to last season.  “I’m proud, we are losing many key players this year, but the underclassmen stepped up big” senior Josh Musih said.

The team looks to improve on their 1st round exit next year.  “To improve, our big goal this year was to improve our record and make the playoffs. Our goal next year will be to finally win a playoff game,” Behne said.

Annandale will enter next season with high hopes to build upon their recent success, which in turn will build more pressure than ever.
