In 1908, James Madison University, formerly known as Madison College, was founded in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The campus is located in a urban area that is 714 acres. James Madison offers a wide range of clubs from a scuba diving club to a film club. JMU also has a strong program for students to study abroad to places like Antwerp, Belgium, Beijing, Florence, London, Salamanca and Spain.

JMU’s sports teams are in the NCAA Division One level. Freshmen are required to live on campus their first year. The majority of classes will have 20-50 students. The ratio of faculty to students is 1:16. The male population at James Madison University is 40.4 perc and the female population is 59.6 percent. The graduation rate is 67%. JMU offers the student services of non remedial tutoring, women’s center, placement service, health service and health insurance along with campus security. JMU offers financial aid to students who qualify.
