The Young Avengers are coming…

The+Young+Avengers+are+coming...

It’s been two years since Avengers: Endgame was released in theaters and we’re still wondering what the Avengers’ future and the roster could look like now that more characters are being introduced in this vast universe. Many fans speculate the adaptation of the Mighty Avengers or even the New Avengers, but there’s a team that Kevin Fiege is already planting the seeds for the Young Avengers. The Young Avengers is a team that doesn’t nearly get as much love as they should and it’s unfortunate because they’re a great team within Marvel Comics that never had breakout stories. While hardcore fans know who they are, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans may not know who they are. So, who are the Young Avengers?

The Young Avengers first appeared in Young Avengers issue #1 written by Allen Heinberg and art done by Jim Cheung. The team includes Patriot aka Elijah Bradley, Wiccan and Speed aka Tommy and Billy Maximoff, Hulkling, Kate Bishop, Stature aka Cassandra Lang, and Iron Lad aka Nathaniel Richards. The formation of the team is a bit… complicated considering that Nathaniel Richards is also Kang the Conqueror and Marvel back in the mid-2000s had multiple events happening at once, so bare with the formation of the team: after Nathaniel learns about his future self, Kang, he travels to the present day where Wanda Maximoff begins having a mental breakdown after discovering she had two children and the memories of them being blocked by Agatha Harkness (the events of Avengers: Disassembled and House of M written by Brian Michael Bendis). Nathaniel finds his way to Stark Industries where he finds an A.I. of Vision that has information on an Avengers fail-safe program that listed young heroes related to the Avengers. Kang arrives in the present day to which Nathaniel assembles the Young Avengers who fight and defeat Kang.

The seeds have already been planted for the Young Avengers to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as three Marvel Cinematic Universe shows have shown off five of the seven members: Elijah Bradley in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Billy and Tommy Maximoff in Wanda Vision, Cassandra Lang in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, and recently Kate Bishop in Hawkeye. Kid Loki, who appeared in Loki, and America Chavez, who will appear in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, could also be introduced to the team as they are current members in the comics. We could see the return of Billy and Tommy Maximoff in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness as the post-credit scene of Wanda Vision teased their return after Wanda accessed the Darkhold. We could also see Kang the Conqueror be the main villain for a Young Avengers project now that Loki has set up Kang the Conqueror played by actor Johnathan Majors to be an overarching villain in phase four.

While it hasn’t officially been confirmed by Kevin Fiege that the Young Avengers are coming, it would be a really interesting team to see done in a film or small-scaled TV show stretched across two phases. Also taking into consideration the young actors and actresses they’ve chosen so far to portray these characters, they’re probably signed on for more appearances in other future projects.
