Can the S10 save Samsung?

2018 wasn’t exactly the best year for Samsung, the South Korean tech giant suffered greatly from poor smartphones sales, more accurately poor sales from their flagships.

Samsung touted their S9 at the beginning of the year saying it has the most advanced camera in a smartphone ever. Well looking back on that it is fairly easy to say all of campaigning around that camera did not pay off because the sales comparing the S9 to its predecessor the s8 shows that the S9 sales pale in comparison to the sales of the S8. most people can attribute the sales slump in the fact that the S9 looks extremely similar to the S8 and does not offer enough feature to differentiate itself from the S8

After the less than successful sales of the S9, Samsung looked towards their Note 9 to make up the sales that the S9 couldn’t. While Note 9 was a bigger upgrade than the S9 it couldn’t do was Samsung needed it to. So by the end of the year, Samsung was left with two flagship phones that didn’t live up to the demand.

Samsung’s solution to this problem is the S10. Thanks to leaks we know that the S10 will be a major overhaul of the ‘S’ series of phones. Because the release of the S10 will mark the 10th anniversary of the “S’”, Samsung is looking to do what Apple did with the iPhone X, meaning the S10 will be a much bigger upgrade than before. From what we know Samsung is planning on adding as many features as they can to make sure it will be worth buying.

From in screen fingerprint scanners, to nearly full-screen design, Samsung plans for this phone to be their best yet. The big changes are not only happening outside the phone, Samsung also plans to bring major changes to the inside of the phone. On top of the in screen fingerprint scanner, they are also upgrading the battery and adding two more cameras to add more versatility to photographers.

So far from the leaks and rumors, the general opinion of the S10 is much more positive than the S9, whether public opinion means betters sales remains to be seen.Sophmore Abraham Belayneh shows hope in the product by saying  ”I believe that the S10 has enough useful features to make an appealing product” The S10 will be revealed on Feb 20 during Samsung’s unpacked event and will go on sale March 8.
