The University of Virginia or UVA was founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819. It is one of the top ten public colleges in the nation. UVA only accepts 32.6 percent of its applicants, which makes it a highly selective school.

UVA is located in the suburban area of Charlottesville. The entire campus is 1,682 acres and has been historically known for having a beautiful historical feel. In total, 15,595 undergraduate students are enrolled at UVA.

Greek life is somewhat popular at UVA with 30% of students active in sororities and fraternities. The Wahoos or Cavaliers are a Division I sports school that competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The faculty to student ratio is 1:16 and 51.9 percent of classes at UVA have less than 20 students. At UVA 44.6 percent of the students are male and 55.4 percent of the students are female. 43 percent of the students live in on-campus housing, leaving 57 percent of the student body living off campus.

This school is right for you if:

-You are in need of nonremedial tutoring, women’s center, placement service, day care, health service and health insurance.

-You want a very safe campus that offers safety and security services including 24-hour foot and vehicle patrols, late night transport/escort service, 24-hour emergency telephones, lighted pathways/sidewalks and controlled dormitory access.

I wouldn’t say it’s such a safe campus. Just last night there was a guy who pulled out a gun at a frat party (one that, thankfully, I left about 15 minutes prior to the incident). But you’re correct about the great security/police services that show up after something has happened.

I would love to see something about how new college students are settling into their new lives after the first couple of weeks! Maybe show a day in the life of them or something along those lines.
