Atoms’ Top Five Fall Favorites

Fall finally arrived on September 23rd, after taking it’s time. The days are getting shorter and colder, making it most students’ favorite season for some reasons listed below:

1. Sweater weather:

With the temperature dropping, it is the perfect time to ditch the tank tops and switch to sweaters. The leaves are changing, the air is getting colder, and cloudy days are becoming more frequent. Although not all students appreciate the gloomier skies, most answered that “the weather” was their favorite thing about fall, when asked. With unpredictable weather, warmer and cooler days, layering provides students with new combinations of outfits for autumn. “I personally like fall clothes because to me there are so many more options and they’re just so much more cute than other seasons.” said sophomore Ghazal Khairi. 2. Fire in the fireplace:

Creating a cozy environment and ambiance is an important step when getting into fall. While most people associate lighting a fire in the fireplace with winter, 9th grader Gee Riester disagrees. “My fireplace at home doesn’t work, so my memories of fire are all from when my family goes to a cabin in the mountains.” Sipping a warm drink by the fire is a perfect way to spend a chilly autumn night, but fires don’t solely have to be lit in the fireplace. Gathering around a bonfire with friends and family is a good way to connect with others while still getting into a fall mood on warmer nights. A simple alternative to a fire is lighting a candle. Fall-scented candles are easily accessibly and look great as decor too!

3. Making a new playlist:

As the leaves become more vibrant with the colors of autumn, so do students’ playlists. In accordance with the changing season and fall creeping in around the corner, students are adding tracks that reflect the weather, have a softer sound, or help them get into a spooky mood for Halloween. Students can connect with others by making new playlists full of songs that remind them of autumn. This serves as a good opportunity for students to expand their musical horizons and add new songs to their queue. Additionally, students can find inspiration from the various “Made For You” playlists that Spotify automatically creates for their own playlists this fall.

4. Cozying up with good entertainment:

Snuggling up under a blanket can be extremely comforting during fall. Lots of students simply enjoy chilling out and doing nothing in cozy clothes. It can be a good opportunity for students to to listen to their fall playlist, read a good book, scroll aimlessly through TikTok, or watch their favorite fall movie or TV-show with their partner or friends. These activities can help students forget about the stressors of daily lives, and leave behind the worries of school, friends, family while they’re cozied up in their softest blanket. “I love reading books in my free time, and I think fall is such a nice time to read,” says sophomore Danica Javier, capturing a common sentiment.

5. Pumpkin Spice:

Pumpkin spice is one of those scents and things that fully embodies the essence of autumn. Unsurprisingly, a lot of our readers responded to our question with pumpkin spice being their favorite fall thing. Just a whif of the spice can bring a sense of nostalgia especially unique to this time of year.“My mom makes really good pumpkin cream cheese muffins every fall. It’s a tradition in our family to make them which gets me into an autumn mood and brings back a lot of memories,” says sophomore Zoe Ligairi. Pumpkin spice can be infused into hundreds of things; candles, perfumes, foods, it doesn’t have to be just one thing. In fact, it can be anything!
