The Annandale lacrosse team has had some struggles this season standing at a 2-7 record. The team however has been coming together very nicely and has seen improvement to a very great extent.
Junior Antony Gomez said “I think for our team having a large number of primarily second year players, we are doing good. We have focus and we have chemistry, now it is just the fundamentals and stringing them together in our games.”
Despite the losing record, the team keeps their heads up and still plays with tenacity.
Sophomore Nate Holder said, “I think we can lose some motivation when we go against tough teams, however after big plays are made by our team I can see the energy shift our way. I really loved our motivation boost from our senior night game against Lewis. We won 6-5 in double overtime.”
“The team dinners which bring the team together after practice to share a meal really helps to keep us focused. The parents play a big part in the dinners and the team appreciates them.” Said Gomez after being asked about where inspiration for the team’s performance comes from.
The current lacrosse team has many JV players from last year, who have been bumped to varsity and have made amazing improvements.
Junior Mathias Kent said, “I was bumped to varsity and play defense, the games are more challenging but I have adapted and progressed enough to wear I can hang with the varsity team and contribute.”
“It has definitely been a challenge and I have been working hard towards being the best I can be. For me it was not easy but I do enjoy the challenge varsity brings.” Said Junior Mathew Giron Blanco. The team only has two guaranteed next games which will be an away district game along with an away regional game.
Gomez said, “I think we should use these next games to improve while we will likely play more skilled teams. No matter what, we will try and give 100 percent effort and leave it all on the field.”
Overall the team has seen great improvement this season and the players brought everything they had to the field. They look forward to having some more experienced players next season.
